After slipping the first green jacket over his shoulders just three weeks ago as the winner of the first major championship of the 2012 golf betting season at the Masters, rising star Bubba Watson returns to the lengthy TPC Louisiana course in Avondale this week as the defending champion of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Watson defeated American rival Webb Simpson in a playoff last year to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and pay off on the 2012 Zurich Classic Golf Betting Odds, after both players carded a total score of 15-under par 273 - including matching final-round scores of 69 – on the 7,341-yard, par-72 track at TPC Louisiana.
Now ranked at a lofty No. 4 in the official world golf rankings, Watson hasn’t played since winning his first-ever major championship at Augusta but his lowest finish in eight PGA Tour events this year was T18 back in early January at the season-opening Tournament of Champions.
Also featured among the impressive results that have him currently ranked second in the FedExCup playoffs standings and first on the PGA Tour money list is a runner-up finish at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, as well as a T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a T5 result at the Phoenix Open.
Watson is accordingly listed at short 12/1 odds to win his second straight Zurich Classic crown this week, behind only Luke Donald of England who is ranked No. 2 in the world and priced as the 11/1 chalk to win in New Orleans.
Other players available in a strong field that are expected to challenge Watson and Donald in New Orleans include Keegan Bradley (18/1), Justin Rose along with Simpson (both at 20/1), Steve Stricker (22/1) and Jason Dufner (25/1), as well as Graeme McDowell, 2007 Zurich champion Nick Watney and recent RBC Heritage winner Carl Pettersson (each at 28/1).
