Multi-Hand Black Jack
Goal
The goal in blackjack is to beat the dealer. You
beat the dealer by having the higher hand, without
going over 21. If you go over 21 it's called a bust
and you automatically lose. If you don't bust but
the dealer does then you win.
Card Values
Cards 2-10 are counted at face value.
Jacks, Queens, and Kings count as 10.
An ace counts as 11 unless it would bust your
hand, in which case it counts as 1.
If the first two cards dealt to a hand are an
ace and a ten-value card it's called a Blackjack
and is an automatic winner.
The Deal
Place your bet before the cards are dealt.
Six decks of cards are used, and are reshuffled
after each round.
The player gets two cards and the dealer gets
two cards. One of the dealer's cards is face-up.
Blackjacks
If the player has a blackjack it is an automatic
winner, unless the dealer also has a blackjack
which will result in a push. A dealer blackjack
will also automatically beat any player hand besides
a blackjack. The dealer follows the American rule
of checking for blackjack before the player's
turn.
The Play
If neither you nor dealer has a blackjack you
can choose to:
- Hit. When you hit you take another card. You
can hit as many times as you want. But remember,
if you go over 21 then you bust.
- Stand. When you stand it means you don't want
any more hits, which ends your turn. Then the
dealer plays.
Double down
You double your bet and get exactly one more card.
Doubling is only allowed on a two-card hand, including
after splitting.
Split
If your first two cards are the same value you
can split them into two hands, which requires
a matching wager. Each card becomes the first
card in a new hand. The dealer gives you one more
card for each of your two hands. Then you play
each hand as you normally would. You can resplit
three times (up to four hands total). A pair of
Aces on the opening hand may only be split once.
Dealer's Turn
The dealer plays the same way every time: He hits
until he has at least 17. The dealer will stand
on all totals of 17 or greater.
Insurance
If the dealer's up card is an ace, you can make
a side bet that the dealer's hole card is any
ten point card, thus insuring your hand against
a dealer blackjack. If the dealer does have a
blackjack then the insurance bet wins.
Pay Table
A winning blackjack pays 3 to 2.
A winning insurance bet pays 2 to 1.
All other wins pay 1 to 1.
