The Phoenix Coyotes can take a commanding 3-1 lead in their Western Conference quarterfinal series with the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night if they can pay off on the NHL Playoffs Odds and win Game 4 on the road.
Phoenix grabbed a 2-1 series lead in Game 3 on Tuesday night, winning 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Mikkel Boedker. That marker, however, was overshadowed by a hit on Marian Hossa by Raffi Torres which sent the Chicago forward to the hospital on a stretcher. Hossa suffered an upper body injury, and the team hasn't said much about his status.
Torres, though, was suspended indefinitely by NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Wednesday afternoon and won't be in the lineup for Game 4 on Thursday night.
Ray Whitney and Rostislav Klesla also scored on Tuesday for the Coyotes, with Klesla also adding a pair of assists after picking up just 13 points in 65 games in the regular season. Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith made 35 saves on 37 Chicago shots in the victory.
Andrew Brunette and Michael Frolik had the goals in the losing cause for the Blackhawks, who had been pegged as -155 home favorites on the NHL Playoffs Odds on Tuesday night. Corey Crawford surrendered three goals on 34 shots in nets for Chicago.
Overall the Coyotes are now 5-1 in their past six games against the Blackhawks, with the OVER/UNDER going 2-3-1 in those contests.
And on the 2012 Stanley Cup odds at Bovada Sportsbook the Coyotes and Blackhawks were both listed at 18/1 to win the Stanley Cup heading into Wednesday night's action on the ice, with the clubs also tied at 9/1 odds to win the Western Conference.
