by Aengus Moorehead
Last week’s result:
Denver (+6.5) beats host Tennessee 26-20. Baltimore (+1.5) beats host Pittsburgh 17-14.
Last week against the Spread:
Denver upsets; Baltimore upsets.
Analysis: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has staged two straight fourth quarter comebacks. He could be morphing into the type of quarterback the Ravens expected when they drafted him in the first round three years ago.
Denver quarterback Kyle Orton is carrying the offense, but he'll get his toughest test of the year against the Ravens, who have had one of the league's best defenses during the past decade.
Orton has impressive numbers, but still has to prove he can be effective against a quality defense. Orton will have to move well to handle the pressure from the Ravens. The Baltimore Ravens will definitely eliminate Denver’s running game, so the only thing left is Orton and his receivers, Lloyd, Eddie Royal and Demaryius Thomas.
WR Brandon Lloyd has to come up big for the Broncos. If the Denver Broncos are smart, they'll take some shots downfield against the Ravens to see if Lloyd can make some big plays. The Baltimore Ravens will have to rotate coverage to Lloyd's side to contain him.
The Ravens should be the NFL betting favorites at home, where they are 4-1 both ATS and SU in their last five meetings against Denver Broncos. Baltimore’s defense is looking as dominant as it did when they won the Super Bowl back in 2000.
Orton is going to have his hands full if he wants to have a 300-yard day against the Ravens, and that’s not likely to happen. The Denver Broncos defense is going to have to keep this game close, and while the Ravens’ offense has struggled, they’re balanced and can keep the Broncos on their toes. Which Broncos show up? Judging by patterns, the inconsistent and shaky Broncos but they will keep it close. Take Broncos.
