"It's not the first time I've been under the radar," said Cink. "I've played a lot of times with Tiger [Woods] and hearing the Tiger roars, and with Mickelson. I'm usually the guy the crowd appreciates, but they're not behind me 100 percent. Maybe this will change it." I beg to differ Stewie, you single handily ruined my day and no, your victory won’t change a thing. Because guys under the radar are not supposed to win major championships. In fact, you will surely be a pariah for the rest of your life and unwittingly be recognized as the man who shattered our dreams when you made that putt for birdie on the 72th hole. Was it worth the Jug? You are a tremendous golfer yet you bring us no delight by watching you play. You just don’t have “it”. Boring! You don’t have the looks, the hair, the belt...the flair. Players like you will come and go; the one major type kind and we have seen plenty through the years much to our dismay. I for one, wanted a story book ending: two Englishmen, one with furryhaired Chris Wood and veteran Lee Westwood. Ross Fisher was a good story with an expecting wife until he snowmaned the 5th . The Tasmanian devil Goggin was also a good fix but none greater than Watson. He blew me away. But Stewart Cink???? Cabrera, Glover, Cink...what next?

“Man on the moon “ was Walter Cronkite’s famous utterance as it was delivered almost 40 years ago on July 20th 1969. When the earth stood still, Neil Armstrong felt the sandy soil of the moon and for many of us old enough to have had Uncle Walter in our house, his reaction of the event was one that can never be duplicated . Genuine. We felt his elation and that’s the way it is and shall remain. Good Night Walter. I also remember Peter Alliss’ melodic tune where the charismatic and unique commentator for the BBC- behind the microphone at Turnberry in 1977- describing the action with Tom Watson and a washed-up Jack Nicklaus at 37 dueling out in the scorching Scottish sun. When the two golf geniuses enabled themselves to steer clear of the field by 8 or 9 shots , it was up to them to put on a show for the Scottish throng. They did. Watson has a one shot lead and one hole to play, Watson safe on 18 and Jack in trouble. Walter would have been proud of Alliss. Watson hits a 7 iron within a foot of the hole....”Elementary my dear Watson” Alliss says without missing a beat. The duel in the sun they would call it. Tommorow, 32 years later, Watson is leading yet again. Walter is gone, the man who guided our spirits to the moon and made made us believe. Peter Alliss, the voice of golf whose been part of the British Open for 59 years and Tom Terrific who brought us and myself to unbeliavable moments is 59.

Tiger, Manny and Andy.
Tiger is leading his own tournament alongside a gathering of journeymen, Manny is set for a hero’s welcome back in LA where steroids and PEDs seem not to trouble Californians and newlywed Andy Roddick is looking for his second grand slam title on the green court in Wimbledon. Who will have the best weekend?
