#15 Florida State Seminoles vs. #17 Duke Blue Devils

Seminoles: 23-6 (3-5 V)
Blue Devils: 22-7 (14-1 H)
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 28, 2017
Where: Cameron Indoor Stadium, Durham, North Carolina

It’s the last week of the regular season and in the ACC there is still much to be determined ahead of their season ending tournament.

Three teams have identical 11-5 conference records in second place including the Seminoles. And Duke is part of a tag team that remains one game behind them.

Florida State has not faced a ranked team since beating Louisville 73-68 on Jan. 21st. They are just 5-4 since then- all to conference teams. But they may be heating up as they’ve won two in a row after dropping two in a row.

The last win came on Saturday at Clemson (14-14, 4-12)

It was a hard-earned win against a team much lower in the standings which may highlight Florida State’s struggles on the road, or be a sign of their resilience or perhaps a bit of both.

In either case, after beating Clemson 109-61 a couple of weeks ago, this one went down to the wire. And it was a back and forth affair pretty much from the get go. The Tigers had the lead with 1:17 to go, but Florida State went ahead on a Xavier Rathan-Mayes jumper and Clemson didn’t make another shot from there on out.

The win improved the Seminoles’ conference road record to just 3-5. And although success has been hard to come by, the other two wins were over quality opponents in Virginia and Miami.

Duke has now lost two in a row after a seven-game winning streak that included three wins over ranked teams. Both those defeats came on the road, first going down 78-75 to Syracuse (17-13, 9-8) then 55-50 to Miami (20-8, 10-6).

The 50 points scored last time was 32 points below their season average and by 14 points their lowest output of the season.

The Blue Devils were missing sophomore and third leading scorer Grayson Allen who was sidelined with an ankle injury. Amile Jefferson -the team’s fourth leading scorer- also had to leave early in the second half and both were missed and will be game time decisions for this game.

Duke went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 39, but Miami hit a three after right that and never looked back.

Duke has two home losses this season, each by two points. The first came in the third game of the season to Kansas, the second a shocker to NC State (4-13 conference record).

That loss was the wakeup call that led to the last run. Perhaps this recent two game slide will be the catalyst for the next one.

BetOnline has the Duke listed as 6½-point favorites and the game's total open at 155.
