The NASCAR Sprint Cup series returns to Saturday night this week and the Cup drivers make just their second trip to Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400. Jimmie Johnson opened as the 5/1 favorite on Bovada Sportsbook’s NASCAR Quaker State 400 Las Vegas Odds.
Kyle Busch (7/1) won the inaugural race at the 1.5-mile tri-oval last year from the pole. He pulled away from Johnson on a restart with three laps to go. Busch led by far the most laps with 125. David Reutimann slipped past Johnson to finish second. Ryan Newman was fourth, followed by Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth. It was the Cup's first new venue since Chicago and Kansas were added to the schedule in 2001.
There have been five different winners on the circuit this year in the past five races. Johnson was one of them, visiting Victory Lane June 3 at Dover. He is fourth in the points, with Kenseth (35/4 to win this week) leading.
This might not be the best track for resurgent Dale Earnhardt Jr. (13/1), a winner two weeks ago at Michigan. He finished 30th (he started 29th) and didn’t lead a single lap last year. Brad Keselowski (12/1) led the second-most laps last year with 79 but finished seventh. The only other driver to lead at least 10 laps was Kurt Busch (68/1), who finished ninth.
Joey Logano (37/1) loves this track. In his first start there in 2008, Logano started from the pole, led 76 of 200 laps and became the youngest race winner in Nationwide Series history. The next year, Logano took the checkered again from the pole. In 2010, he made it 3-for-3 in poles and victories, becoming the first driver to win three consecutive races from the pole at a single track. Logano finished 14th in the Quaker State 400 last year and 10th in the Nationwide race. Already Logano has his second career Sprint Cup win (at Pocono) and six Top-10 finishes this year, tying has many Top 10s as he had all of last year.
