Will he, or won’t he, and if he does, then what kind of impact will he make on the game? These are the questions circling WR Odell Beckham Jr the heart and soul of the New York Giants offense. We know this because of how the Giants came out and played against a Cowboys team that just allowed 45 points to the Broncos on Sunday.

With the over a month to prepare for that game last week, secure in the knowledge that Beckham would miss it, the Giants looked completely lost and unable to sustain any drives as they lost 19-3.

The new addition to the team was WR Brandon Marshall and he looked old and uncappable of getting open. The running game continued to be a middling attack as they managed just 35 yards on 12 attempts.

The Giants offensive scheme is predicated on isolation matchups, so take Beckham out of the lineup and we see that he is more irreplaceable than most superstars.

Now it’s expected that he’ll start on Monday and if you listened to Chris Collinsworth on last week’s broadcast he planted some food for thought. He said that if it were up to him he’d at least have Beckham in the lineup to keep defenses honest, even if he couldn’t really do much. And that begs the question if that’s exactly the Giants plan for this week as he works back into shape from an ankle injury.

The Lions won their season opener last week, a 35-23 win over the Cardinals. Matthew Stafford was made the highest quarterback in the league just days before the season started and he showed that the pressure would not get to him. He tossed four touchdowns in the opener along with an interception and 285 yards passing.

Golden Tate was the star of the show with a 10-107-0 day, but his job was made much easier as WRs Kenny Gollady, Marvin Jones and T.J. each averaged at least 16 YPC while stretching the field. And that is no easy task against a talented Cardinals secondary.

The Lions run game was supposed to be better with the return of Ameer Abdullah, but he could only manage a 15-30-0 day.

The defense held the Cardinals in check, with 308 yards total while forcing four turnovers. RB David Johnson suffered a wrist injury that severely limited what Arizona could do.

Bovada has the Giants listed as 3-point favorites and the game's total is sitting at 42 according to MyBookie.

On the NFL Football Moneyline Odds at BetOnline Giants are the Favorite at -165.

New York was a 19-3 loser in its last match on the road against the Cowboys. They failed to cover the +6-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 22 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

In their last action, Detroit was a 35-23 winner at home against the Cardinals. They covered the +2.5-point spread as underdogs, while the combined score (58) was profitable news for OVER bettors.

Next up:
Detroit home to Atlanta Sunday, September 24
New York at Philadelphia Sunday, September 24

The result:
New York are -3 favorites and should benefit from Beckham’s presence and the homefield crowd. The defense should also be able to do well against the Lions if they remain one-dimensional. New York’s talent on defense is still evident after week one. On the other hand the Lions defense against a one-dimensional Cards team looked good as well. The Giants also need to establish a ground game, especially because I think Beckham will be limited in what he can do. For that reason, I like more of what Detroit brings to the table. The Pick: Lions 20-14.
