MLB Baseball Picks & Tips: San Diego Padres vs Colorado Rockies

After 49-year-old Jamie Moyer secured a win for the ages, Juan Nicasio will look to keep the momentum going on Wednesday as the Colorado Rockies attempt to take two of three from the visiting San Diego Padres.

The 25-year-old Nicasio will try to follow Moyer's lead in one respect - by earning his first win of the season against the light-hitting Padres.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Clayton Richard (0-1, 2.77 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Juan Nicasio (0-0. 6.52 ERA)

With Tuesday's 5-3 victory, Colorado snapped a five-game losing skid to San Diego. Moyer became the oldest pitcher to win a major league game when he tossed seven solid innings and Dexter Fowler belted a two-run homer on Tuesday.

Richard has struggled versus the Rockies, winning just one of four career decisions while registering a 5.05 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. The hurler answered one strong start versus the Los Angeles Dodgers with a sluggish one. Richard yielded eight runs on six hits, but did not collect a decision in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Dodgers.

Nicasio has fared well in one start and struggled in the other, but has not recorded a decision this season. The 25-year-old yielded six earned runs on five hits in a 7-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in his last outing. Richard won his lone decision against the Padres.

1. After sitting out three straight games with strep throat, Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez returned to the lineup and went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks on Tuesday. He is 6-for-21 in his career versus Richard.

2. Chris Denorfia, who matched a career high with four hits on Tuesday, has six hits in his last seven at-bats. He has just 1-for-5 in his career against Nicasio, but that hit was a home run.

3. Troy Tulowitzki continues to have troubles in the field. The Gold Glove shortstop, who recorded his fourth two-error game of his career on Tuesday, has six errors already this season.
