Astros: 45-22 (22-14 H)

The Houston Astros continue their 10-day home stand and will look to improve on a poor sojourn so far as they conclude it with a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox. The two clubs will face one another for the first time this season with the opener of the series set to begin Friday night at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The loss of three key cogs in the rotation is starting to take its toll on the Astros. Dallas Keuchel, Lance McCullers Jr. and Charlie Morton account for 56 percent of the win total for the Astros and it is no wonder why the team has stumbled of late by going 3-6 after it won 13 consecutive games with the trio contributing en masse during that winning stretch.

Boston come in into this series having failed to sweep a four-game series against the Phillies. They had a great opportunity with ace Chris Sale on the mound but seem to forget to score runs whenever the fireballer is on duty. The Phillies escaped with a 1-0 win with Sale collecting 10 strikeouts in the loss.

LH Drew Pomeranz (6-4, 4.48 ERA) gets the nod for the Red Sox in the series’ opener while RH Mike Fiers (4-2, 4.29 ERA) looks for his third straight win as he takes his turn for the Astros.

After three consecutive wins when he limited the opposition to just 4 combined runs with 26 strikeouts in 18 innings, Pomeranz drew a blank in his last outing as he allowed five runs on six hits in just 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Detroit Tigers last Sunday. Although the 28-year old hasn’t been a major disappointment this season, he still hasn’t shown the endowment of a first-round draft pick thus far in his career. The Tennessee native is 0-2 with a 5.82 ERA in 5-career starts against the Astros.

With the loss of ace Dallas Keuchel and two other starters, the Astros needed for the rest the rotation ensemble to step up and Fiers definitely lands in that category. The 32-year old has been solid in his last three outings winning them all while conserving a 1.96 ERA during that stretch. He saved his best of the season thus far in his last outing when he threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings with just 2 hits and 8 strikeouts in a 3-1 win over the Angels on Saturday. The Floridian beat the Red Sox in his lone start last year.

Mybookie Sportsbook has the Astros favorites at 125-moneyline with the total sitting at 9.
