Vikings: 7-2 SU,8-1 ATS

Up until three games ago, the Green Bay Packers were doing usual Packer stuff. They were 6-0 and even with a weakened receiving corps missing #1 option Jordy Nelson, Aaron Rodgers was still able to carve up the opposition. But since the calendar turned to November the wheels have been falling off. They were badly exposed in a Sunday night demolition to the Broncos, going down hard 29-10. But they had no respite as they lost to the still undefeated Carolina Panthers. The real shocker however was last week when they lost at home to the Detroit Lions for the first time in 24 year. It was a low scoring 18-16 loss and in spite of their inability to score all day the still had a chance to win after recovering an onside kick in the last minute of the game. The field goal however was blocked and that was that.

Now they come into Minnesota wondering where their offence went. The biggest surprise of all is the fall of Eddie Lacy. In his first two years in the league he could do no wrong as he accumulated over 1100 yards rushing in each of those years. This year all he’s been able to manage is 308 yards and was inactive for last week’s game due to a groin injury.

His replacement James Starks could only manage 42 yards on 15 carries and Rogers threw the ball 61 times on the way to collecting those 16 points. It’s further proof that even in a passing league, you still need to be able to keep defences honest with some semblance of a running game.

The Vikings in the meanwhile have the best running back in the game in Adrian Peterson. The way the 7-2 Vikes are going he’s starting to make a name for himself as a potential MVP candidate (non-Brady category). Their offence runs through him (literally) and he’s accumulated more than 200 yards than his closest competitor (961-734). Good thing too, because in his second year at QB, Teddy Bridgewater has regressed somewhat. He’s thrown only 7 touchdowns to go with 6 INTs and is 26th in the league in passing yards. Those stats make what Peterson’s doing that much more impressive.

Offensively Green Bay remains 11th in PPG (24.3) and Minnesota is 22nd (22). In their last 3 games though Green Bay has averaged 18.3 points while through their current five game winning streak Minnesota has averaged 23.6.

The Pack are also 11th in points allowed (20.6) while Minnesota is second (17.1). Over the same stretch of games Green Bay has allowed 28 points while the Vikings have given up 16.2.

The biggest injury to the Pack is to Nelson.

The Vikings have been without their starting center all season in John Sullivan and he is eligible to come off the IR list, but is listed as questionable. They have also been without starting tackle Phil Loadholt and LB Casey Matthews all season.

Bovada has the Vikings favorites at PK point favorites and the total sitting at 44 according to MyBookie.ag
