Even Superman has kryptonite. Something along those lines has to be on the minds of the Seahawks as they get ready to battle division rival St Louis.

In the last two + seasons the Seahawks record is 34-12 with a Super Bowl win and a runner up. The Rams over the same period are 19-27. They finished last in the division the first two years and this year they are third. Yet the Rams play them close most of the time. On the whole the Hawks are 3-2 including a 34-31 loss this year. The average score is 23.6 -17.2 in Seattle’s favor. However for those considering the two touchdown favorites, the Seahawks have been able to take care of business at home. The average score there is 23.5-7.5. They won by 14 last year and 18 the year before.

The Rams have been surprise winner the past two weeks taking down the Lions and Bucs. It’s raised their record to a more respectable 6-8 and they will be motivated to get to .500 on the season and finish on a high. It would be the first time reaching such lofty heights since finishing 8-8 in the 2006 season.

In order to do it, they’ll have to reverse a season long inability to win on the road. They are just 1-5 away from home this year, but that one win was a huge one. They beat Arizona 24-22 back in week 4.

Lately the offence has come alive. In those two wins they’ve scored 52 points. The running game behind rookie of the year candidate Todd Gurley was behind the 21 points put up against the Lions, but it was the efficient day of QB Case Keenum that was the story last week. He went 14-17 for 234 yards and 2 TDs while Gurley managed just 48 yards on 21 carries.

The defence came up with some timely plays before Jameis Winston and company managed to convert in the fourth quarter. They gave up 509 total yards to the Bucks, but it was a garbage time TD that brought the Bucs up to a respectable losing score (31-23).

The Seahawks might not have the biggest winning streak in the league, but they might be playing better than anyone else at the moment. And the biggest reason has been the inspired play of QB Russell Wilson.

Hearing of QBs throwing five and even six touchdowns in a game has become a norm in the second half of the season. But no one, not even likely MVP Cam Newton can match what Wilson has done over the past five weeks. He has thrown at least 3 TDs in each of game with a total line of 19TDs in that time. His average passer rating has been an out of this world 140.1. Just hitting that mark once in a season is a sign of an elite QB, but that’s where he’s at the last third of the season.

As such the Seahawks are on a five game winning streak and have won seven of the last eight. The average score in those games is 29.5-15.4. That is a 14.1 point margin of victory. At home against teams with losing records this year they have faced four teams. In those games the average score was 24.5-9. That’s a 15.5 point victory margin.

The Rams are missing T Rodger Saffold, T Jamon Brown, LB Alec Ogletree, FS T.J. McDonald and DE Robert Quinn. Major players out for Seattle are RB Marshawn Lynch and TE Jimmy Graham.

Bovada has the Seahawks favorites at 13-point favorites and the total sitting at 40½ according to MyBookie.ag

In their last action, Seattle was a 30-13 winner at home against the Browns. They covered the -14-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (43) was profitable news for UNDER bettors.

St. Louis won its last outing, a 31-23 result against the Buccaneers on December 17. The Rams covered in that game as a -1-point favorite, while the 54 combined points took the game OVER the total.

St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks NFL Betting Odds & Trends

St. Louis:
St. Louis is 2-4-1 ATS in its last 7 games
St. Louis is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of St. Louis's last 5 games

Seattle:
Current Streak: won 5 straight games.
Seattle is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games
Seattle is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Seattle's last 6 games

Next up:
St. Louis at San Francisco Sunday, January 3
Seattle at Arizona Sunday, January 3

The Bottom Line: This 13 point spread is no gimme. The Seahawks have been covering but it’s been close. What puts them ahead for me is they are still trying to clinch the fifth seed and the loss of Robert Quinn makes Wilson’s job that much easier. The Pick: Seahawks 30-10.

Liev NFL Prediction: Seattle -12½ at MyBookie
