Last year Carolina hosted Seattle in the Divisional Championship round and the Panthers 31-24 win was one of the most entertaining of the playoffs.

The hosts and eventual Super Bowl runner ups put up 403 yards against one of the best defenses of the past four years. Eventual MVP Cam Newton was solid if not spectacular in helping the Panthers speed out to a 31-0 lead before the second quarter was done. And then Russell Wilson took over in the second half bringing Seattle within a touchdown.

Fast forward to this year and one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn’t the same. The Seahawks –when healthy still have one of the best defenses in the league and the offense while not one of the best, has had its moments.

It now runs through Wilson and his ability to make plays with his legs and arm, especially to downfield threats Doug Baldwin (61-767-5) and Jimmy Graham (51-706-4). The offensive line is still a problem and that’s been especially true in recent weeks. Last week the Bucs had Wilson running for his life producing six sacks and three turnovers.

And the defense is getting healthy and shutting down opponents. They were mostly at full strength the last two weeks and allowed a total of 29 points and an average of 323 YPG.

But they lost to those Bucs 14-5 due to that pressure at the point of attack. The recent travel schedule probably didn’t help either as they saw themselves travelling from coast to coast for four straight games. That continues again this week as they come home after being in Tampa.

Carolina in the meanwhile after finishing first in the league in scoring at 31.3 PPG last year are currently tenth at 25.1. The defense was fourth allowing 19.3 PPG and are now 24th allowing 25.5 PPG.

Injuries have really caught up with this team, first on the offensive line and then two weeks ago with the concussion that knocked defensive leader Luke Kuechly into the concussion protocol.

They keep finding excruciating ways to lose with their last four losses each by three points. They’ve won three of their last five with tough losses to the Chiefs and Raiders mixed in.

Last week they led 32-24 after Kelvin Benjamin hauled in a 44 yard touchdown at 13:26 of the fourth. But the Raiders responded after that, scoring on both of their possessions and shutting down the Panthers on their two. The tide of the game may have turned on a fourth and one from their own 40 where coach Ron Rivera opted to punt when the score was still tied at 32.

RB Jonathan Stewart put up 96 yards and two touchdowns in the loss and he’ll be counted on again this week to shoulder a big load.

If he can come close to the century mark again Carolina will have its chance to win as Stewart helps to balance out the attack and keep the Seahawks off the field.

The Panthers are 14th with 352.8 YPG and 10th scoring 25.1 PPG. The defense is 17th allowing 354.6 YPG and 24th allowing 25.5 PPG.

The Seahawks are 17th with 341.9 YPG and 23rd scoring 20.4 PPG. The defense is 7th allowing 335.6 YPG and first allowing 17.0 PPG.

Bovada has the Seahawks listed as 7½-points favorites and the game's total is sitting at 44 according to MyBookie.

On the NFL Football Moneyline Odds at BetOnline Seahawks are the Favorite at -350.

Seattle was a 14-5 loser in its last match on the road against the Buccaneers. They failed to cover the -5-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 19 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

Last time out for Carolina, they were a 35-32 loser as they battled the Raiders on the road. The Panthers covered in the match as a +3.5-point underdog, while 67 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.
