Houston heads to Atlanta with the best record in the Major Leagues. They exited the weekend 1.5 games better than the Dodgers for that honor after taking two of three from the Yankees.

They had a dry spell in the middle of June, but have come on strong again over the past couple of weeks with a 10-3 record since June 19th.

They’ve outscored their opponents 85-67 over that period.

The Astros started the week 14.5 games up on the Angels in the AL West and 8.5 games better than the Red Sox for the best record in the American League.

Atlanta might just be a team to watch in the second half. They have been playing solid ball ever since the start of June, with an 18-12 record that has brought them within a game of .500.

The offense has been solid, averaging 4.87 RPG and so has the pitching, with a 4.50 ERA.

The streak has brought them to second place in the NL East and 7.5 games back of the Nationals.

Carlos Correa has had himself quite the week for the Astros, producing 10 RBIs and hitting .500 in his last six games. Yuli Gurriel has seven RBIs over the same stretch.

The Braves offense has gone cold over the same stretch, hitting just .196 as a team. Only two regulars hit better than the .227 that Johan Camargo put up. Matt Kemp led with four RBIs while hitting just .167 in the process.

Brad Peacock (5-1, 2.72 ERA) has looked pretty good as a spot starter, especially in his last three starts. He’s allowed just three runs in 15.1 innings of work while striking out 25 hitters in the process. His last two starts were both wins over the A’s.

Sean Newcomb (1-2, 1.48 ERA) got his first Major League win in his last start. The rookie’s been a great June callup, having allowed four runs in 24.1 innings of work. Atlanta managed to score one run total in his first two starts so he took the loss in both. But the Braves won 5-3 over the Giants in his first no-decision two starts ago and 3-0 over the Padres last time out.

Bovada has the Astros favorites at 147-moneyline with the total sitting at 9½ at MyBookie Sportsbook.
