Despite losing 2-1 to Group A winners the Czech Republic, Greece played to a 1-1 draw with co-host Poland and then shocked the Russians with a 1-0 victory on a stoppage-time goal late in the first half by Giorgos Karagounis to advance to the knockout stage as the Group A runner-up.
