Will Power continues to hold down the lead in the IndyCar Series standings, but he now has Scott Dixon charging hard behind him as the race betting circuit heads to Fort Worth, Texas this week for Saturday's running of the Firestone 550.
Power leads Dixon 232-206 in the driver standings after six races in 2012, but Dixon was able to cut into that lead last weekend with a win in Detroit – while Power ended up in fourth place. Dixon also finished second in the previous race in Indianapolis, while Power disappointed his supporters on the IndyCar odds that day with a 28th-place result.
Power, though, won the IndyCar race at Texas Motor Speedway last season – one of them, anyway. In 2011 the event was called the Firestone Twin 275s, with the field competing in two separate races for half-points in the standings each time. Power finished third and first in those two races, while Dixon had to settle for a second-place result both times.
Dario Franchitti won the other Twin 275 in 2011, and he'll be looking to recapture his Indy 500 magic on Saturday as the event returns to its full 550 format. Franchitti is tied for fourth place with James Hinchcliffe in the current standings with 176 points, one point back of third-place Helio Castroneves and 56 points behind Power.
Castroneves, who won IndyCar's season-opening race at St. Petersburg, has won three times on the circuit at Texas Motor Speedway – in each of the 2004, 2006, and 2009 campaigns. Dixon won in Fort Worth in 2008, with Ryan Briscoe (2010) and Tony Kanaan (2004) also claiming victories on the track in their IndyCar careers.
Briscoe has 139 points on the season, with Kanaan just ahead of him with 141 points.
