Oregon and North Carolina will meet to decide who plays in Monday’s national championship.

You have an Oregon team that has had a great season in the PAC-12, competing with the likes of Arizona and UCLA.

They lost one of their big men, Chris Boucher to a torn ACL in the PAC-12 tournament and that was supposed to make them an early upset pick. With him out, the Ducks are generally playing 6’ 7” Dillon Brooks at power forward and 6’ 9” Jordan Bell at center.

But it didn’t seem to matter in their 74-60 smack down over Kansas in the Elite Eight. Bell was magnificent with 13 rebounds and eight blocks.

Tyler Dorsey has paced the attack, with 20 or more points in seven straight while shooting 62.5% from three points land (25-40) in his last six.

In Bell you have the PAC-12 defensive player of the year and with Brooks you have the PAC-12 player of the year. There is clearly a lot of talent still going for the Ducks in this their first final-four appearance since winning it all in the inaugural 1939 season.

Will that inexperience and all the demands that come from fans, media and sponsors affect them at all? Will they play as if they’re just happy to be here?

We know that won’t be the case for the Tar Heels who lost last year’s championship final in excruciating fashion. It came on a three-pointer at the buzzer and most of this year’s team, watched Villanova walk away with the trophy.

They have been here, they know what to expect and are hungry to erase last year’s bitter taste.

The Tar Heels used every bit of that experience to get past another blueblood school, Kentucky 75-73 in the Elite Eight.

Luke Maye has been their hottest player of later averaging 16.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG in the South regional and he hit that game winning bucket.

He’s part of a cast of one of the best scoring and rebounding teams in the country. There are four players coming into the game averaging over 12.3 PPG on the season. But one problem is that their point guard, Joel Berry II who is the engine of this offense is coming in hobbled, with two sprained ankles.

That may end up slowing down the vaunted attack enough to give Oregon a fighting chance. But what the Tar Heels have in spades is size. They will look to exploit that mismatch at every opportunity.

BetOnline has the North Carolina listed as 5-point favorites and the game's total open at 152.
