Euro 2012 is down to just four teams, and semifinal action gets underway this Wednesday at 2:45 ET in the Donbass Arena in the Ukraine when Spain takes on Portugal. The winner will face the winner of Germany vs. Italy in the Finals. Euro 2012 Semifinals Las Vegas Odds today.
The No. 1 team in the world put together yet another dominant performance in the quarterfinals against France. Spain thoroughly dominated the game from start to finish, going ahead early in the 19th minute on a perfectly placed header by Xabi Alonso and then smothering the French with their impeccable possession game before Alonso added a second goal in extra time. Currently the favorite to win the Euro 2012 tournament at 3/2, Spain allowed France just four shots and only one on goal; they just don’t leave opposing teams much room with which to work.
With his two goals, Alonso joined Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas in second place in the tournament’s goal scoring race. Torres entered the game against France as a sub late, and while he had a few chances he couldn’t find his third of the tournament.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are considered by many to be the two best players in the world, but they both also share the criticism of not enjoying enough international success. Ronaldo is doing his part to change that, scoring both goals in the 2-1 win over the Netherlands to advance Portugal to the quarterfinals and the sole goal in Thursday’s win over the Czech Republic. Currently 11/2 to win Euro 2012, Portugal hopes that the red-hot Ronaldo and an extra 48 hours of rest will help power No. 10 ranked Portugal to an upset over powerhouse Spain.
