Reds: 39-52 (23-23 H)
When: 12:35 PM ET, Monday, July 17, 2017

TV: MLB Network, MASN

The Washington Nationals will attempt to maintain their winning form and complete a sweep as they resume hostilities with the hapless Cincinnati Reds in the finale of their four-game series which is set to be staged Monday afternoon at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. This will be the ultimate showdown between the two NL foes. Washington took the first series 2-1 in the nation’s capital back in late June.

The Reds have been easy pickings for the Nationals since last year losing only four times in their last thirteen confrontations. On Sunday, the Nationals showed their superiority once more as they tallied double-digit runs for the second straight game when they destroyed Cincinnati 14-4. Washington were relentless at the plate as they racked up 17 hits while going yards on five occasion with Daniel Murphy connecting twice in the game.

The Nationals, who are in the midst of a nine-game road trip, are riding on a four-game winning streak and are comfortably ahead in the NL East 9.5 games in front of the Atlanta Braves. The Reds pitching has been awful so far in this series as they have allowed 29 runs and are now next to last in the league with a 5.11 ERA. Cincinnati is last in the NL Central 11.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers.

RH Stephen Strasburg (9-3, 3.43 ERA) will look for his tenth win of the season as he takes the mound for the Nationals while RH Scott Feldman takes his turn in the finale for the Reds.

Strasburg, who got hit in the hip by Nick Markakis’ line drive in his last outing against Atlanta, will be good to go for the Nationals. The 28-year old had to leave the game after just three inning in which he gave up three runs on six hits in a 13-0 loss to the Braves on July 8. Strasburg was rocked for 5 runs on 8 hits in five frames in a no-decision against Cincinnati June 23. The California native is 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA in seven-career starts against the Reds.

After tossing three straight quality starts in which he gave up a total of four runs on fifteen hits in 20 innings, Feldman stumbled in his bid to win three straight games against Colorado July 5. The 34-year old veteran allowed four runs on five hits, which two left the yard, in five innings in a 5-3 loss to the Rockies. One of the quality starts was against the Nationals in a game he yielded 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 frames in a 6-2 win back in June 25. The Hawaii native is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 3-career starts against the Nationals.

Mybookie Sportsbook has the Nationals favorites at 150-moneyline with the total sitting at 9.

MLB Runline Odds at BetOnline the Nationals were favored by -1½ (+110)

Pitching Matchup:
