Take a bow if you had Houston and Minnesota at the head of their respective divisions heading into the end of May. Houston comes into this game with the best record in the Major Leagues on the strength of a 19-7 record heading into Monday’s games.

They have the best ERA in the league in May at 3.39 and for the year also at 3.39. They’ve also scored the most runs in the league in May at 140. They are the definition of a team clicking on all cylinders.

Minnesota is 14-9 this month as they scratch and clawed their way to a number of wins. They are below average in both ERA (4.35, 12th) and offense (109, 11th) but it hasn’t stopped them from taking over first place in the AL Central and then reclaiming it later in the month.

Houston had won six of seven entering this series. Minnesota had won five of seven.

Mike Fiers (1-2, 5.21 ERA) is one pitcher who has struggled, but he’s lowered his ERA from 5.74 to 5.21 in his last two starts. He gave up three runs in 4.2 innings last time in a 7-6 win over the Tigers and one run in six in a 3-0 loss to the Indians.

Jose Berrios (3-0, 1.66 ERA) is one of the top pitching prospects in the game, but he struggled mightily last year with a 8.02 ERA in 14 starts. He’s been close to unhittable since getting called up in May. He’s allowed eight hits and four runs in 21.1 innings and three straight wins.

Houston’s bevy of hitters vs a red hot Berrios should make for a great game. Look for Houston to find a way to win.
