Cubs: 73-60 (38-28 H)
When: 2:20 PM ET, Friday, September 1, 2017

The Chicago Cubs will attempt to keep the hot hand as they get set to renew differences in the second contest of their four-game series against the Atlanta Braves with the NL showdown set to be staged Friday night at Wrigley Field in Chicago. This is the last second and last stint between the two clubs.

The Cubs have yet to lose a game this season against the Braves winning all four confrontations including a 6-2 win in the opener on Thursday. Cubs’ starter Kyle Hendricks threw his fourth consecutive quality starts as he lasted 6 2/3 innings across 2 runs on five hits. Kris Bryant hit his 25th homerun of the season in the win.

The Cubs, who are riding on a four-game winning streak, kept their slim 3.5 game lead in the NL Central over the Milwaukee Brewers, winners on Thursday. The Braves have won three straight games only once in the second half of the season and have only 3 wins in their last 16 games against the Cubs dating back to July 2015.

RH Mike Foltynewicz (10-10, 4.84 ERA) will look to snap a four-game losing streak as he gets the call for the Braves while RH John Lackey (10-10-4.98 ) will attempt to rebound from a lackluster performance as he takes his turn for the Cubs.

Folttynewicz has struggled mightily in his last four starts losing all his games while keeping an unflattering 11.34 ERA during that span. The 25-year old did improve his numbers in his last start in which he yielded just a run on four hits with six strikeouts in five innings in 3-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies last Sunday. The Illinois native lost badly in his lone-career start against the Cubs back in 2015.

Lackey performed adequately in his first seven starts after the All-Star break when he compiled a 5-0 record while supporting a 3.09 ERA during that span but was out of sorts in his last two trips to the mound. The 38-year old was tagged for a 10 combined ten runs across 15 hits, which three leaving the yard, in ten innings resulting in a no-decision and a loss. The Texan is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in five-career starts against the Braves.

Mybookie Sportsbook has the Cubs favorites at 210-moneyline with the total sitting at 8.

MLB Runline Odds at BetOnline the Cubs were favored by -1½ (-145)
