The reeling Atlanta Braves will attempt to finally produce a win but it won’t be easy as they prepare to face one of the better team in the league in an abbreviated two-game series when they travel to the Lone Star State to meet the Houston Astros in an interleague showdown set to begin Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The Braves did everything they could to avoid a sweep at the hands of St. Louis on Sunday when they rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game up in the eighth but it was all in vain as they succumbed in the 14th inning for their fourth consecutive loss. They have now lost six of their last seven games.

The Astros, who are coming off of three straight series’ win, must avoid looking beyond this mini-set against one of the worst teams in baseball. Indeed, the New York Yankees are waiting in the wings for a four-game clash starting on Thursday in the Bronx. New York has the best record in baseball a game ahead of the Astros.

RH Bartolo Colon (1-3, 6.27 ERA) gets the call to start the series for the Braves while RH Charlie Morton (3-2, 3.97 ERA) takes his turn for the Astros.

The ageless Colon is beginning to show signs of Father Time catching up with him in a hurry with three straight abysmal outings as the 43-year old allowed 15 runs on 28 hits in 16 innings during that unfortunate stretch. Colon has yielded four or more runs in four of his six starts this season although half of the outings were quality starts. Colon, who started in 1997 with the Cleveland Indians, is 7-3 with a 3.59 ERA in 11 career starts against Houston.

Morton has been the beneficiary of some serious run support in his last two outings with the Astros tallying a combined 19 runs with the 33-year old on the mound during that stretch. After surrendering nine runs in 12 innings in his last two starts in April, Morton settled down nicely with six solid innings with five hits and a run in a 10-1 win over Texas in his last trip to the mound. The New Jersey native is 2-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 5 career starts against the Braves.

Mybookie Sportsbook has the Astros favorites at 195-moneyline with the total sitting at 8½.

MLB Runline Odds at BetOnline the Astros were favored by -1½ (+105)
