Auto Racing Betting Preview & Liev Jackson Picks: NASCAR Heads to Michigan for Firekeepers Casino 400

The Firekeepers Casino 400 from Michigan is a two-mile oval track. It is one of the fastest tracks on the circuit and one of only two that are this long (Auto Club being the other).

This is also the 15th race of the 26-week regular season and there have already been a number of surprise winners on the circuit who now automatically qualify for the year end playoffs. That includes Rickey Stenhouse, Kurt Busch, Austin Dillon, Ryan Newman and last week’s surprise winner in the Poconos, Ryan Blaney.

Meanwhile stalwarts like Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Chase Elliott, Jamie McMurray and Clint Bowyer are all in the top-ten in the points standings and looking for their first win. The pressure is starting to mount on those drivers if they want to guarantee their spots.

Kyle Larson (+400) is just one point back of first in the drivers’ standings. He got his first career victory here at last August and finished third in the spring race. And all of that came before he broke out this year. He’s definitely a legitimate threat to win this week.

Martin Truex Jr. (+500) is the points leader and between he and Larson, they are running away from the other drivers. At the same time, he has not had much success on this track, with just three-top five finishes in his career. The last came two years ago when he was driving a Chevy. The other side of the coin is he’s had the fastest car in nearly every race this year and finished fourth at the Auto Club earlier this year. His 105.7 driver rating in the last seven races at the two-mile tracks is fourth best on the circuit.

Kevin Harvick (+650) is coming very close to winning his first race of the season, so it only seems like a matter of time. He’s finished top-five in five of the last eight races. He’s finished top-five on this track four straight times in August, and three of four times in the spring. And even the year he finished 29th, he still led the most laps. His 112.4 driver rating over the last seven two-mile races is second best.

Brad Keselowski (+650) is another driver who has done well at two miles. His 101.4 rating is fifth best and this is his home track. He’s never won here, but has finished top-ten six consecutive times. He finished fifth last week and has recent seconds at Richmond and Kansas.

Chase Elliott (+800) is still searching for the first win of his career. This could be the track where he gets it done as his 117.1 rating on two-mile tracks indicates. He also finished second in both races here last year, so he’s close.

Erik Jones (+5000) if you’re looking for another surprise winner he could be the pick. His 101.4 rating at two miles over the last seven races is sixth best on the circuit.
