ALCS Game 6 Las Vegas Odds & Aengus Moorehead MLB Predictions: New York Yankees vs Houston Astros

New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros

Yankees: 3-2 (0-2 V)
Astros: 2-3 (2-0 H)
When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, October 20, 2017

TV: Fox Sports 1

The Houston Astros are in a precarious situation one in which they haven’t felt since April as they have been the perennial front-runners and now are suddenly trailing. The Astros have lost three in a row and will look to even the ALCS as they get ready to resume hostilities against the New York Yankees in Game 6 of the Championship with the showdown set be broadcasted Friday night on Fox Sports 1 at 8:08 p.m. ET and live from Minute Maid Park in Houston.

If the Astros have any designs of reaching their first World Series since 2005, they will need for their powerful offense to get it going and in a hurry. The Astros’ bats have been limited to just 9 runs in the 5 games against the Yankees compare to six a game in their four contests in the ALDS versus the Red Sox. Josh Reddick, Alex Bregman, Marwin Gonzalez and George Springer are a combined 6-for-67 in this series.

Even the dynamic twosome of Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa have been silenced in New York as they went 2-for-22 in the three games in the Big Apple. It has been all so disheartening for the Astros who were tied with Cleveland for the best road record in the league but the silver lining could be that the Yankees haven’t been really good away from Yankee Stadium as they boast a 40-41 dossier on the road this season and have won only a game in their last 5 contests on the road in this postseason.

RH Luis Severino (14-6, 2.98 ERA - 1-0, 5.56 ERA) will look to carry his team into the World Series as he gets the call for the Yankees while RH Justin Verlander (15-8, 3.36 ERA - 3-0, 2.04 ERA) will attempt to stay perfect in the postseason as he is slated for Game 6 for the Astros.

After a rough start in the AL Wild Card game when he failed to complete the first inning against Minnesota, Severino has fared much better in his two ensuing outings in which he sported a 1-0 record with a 3.27 ERA during that stretch. The 23-year old appeared to show some discomfort in his last start against Houston and manager Joe Girardi took no chances and lifted the young star after 4 frames. The Dominican is 0-1 with a lofty 8.38 ERA in three-career starts against the Astros.

Verlander won his last three postseason games he participated in but it was his start that stood out when he notched his second-career postseason complete game when he went the distance with just a run allowed on five hits and 13 strikeouts in a 2-1 win over the Yankees last Saturday. The 34-year old is 10-5 with a 3.28 ERA in 18-career postseason starts (19 games). In all, the Virginia native is 8-7 with a 3.48 ERA in 21-career starts against the Yankees.

Mybookie Sportsbook has the Astros favorites at 145-moneyline with the total sitting at 7½.

The result:
Needless to say, the Astros are on the threshold of extinction but do have workhorse Verlander as a possible savior. Severino will be tossed in one of the most pressure-packed situation but may only need to limit the damages as the vaunted Yankees’ bullpen may be called into action on the first sign of trouble. Regardless, Verlander has not lost a single game since being acquired by the Astros and is not about to let this game slip away. Astros 5, Yankees 1.
