2017-18 NFL Football NFC Conference Betting Preview and Free Predictions

Most of the free agents have been signed, mini-camps are behind us and the NFL is on a short break. It’s a perfect time to forecast the upcoming season!

In the NFC, the Atlanta Falcons were the surprise conference winners and will forever be remembered for blowing the biggest lead in Super Bowl history after leading the Patriots 28-3.

Kyle Shanahan was the architect of that incredible offense, but now he’s gone on to become head coach of the 49ers. The new OC is former USC head coach Steve Sarkisian. The defense overachieved with a ton of youth and should be better going forward.

If they can get over the psychological hurdle of blowing that game, they should be right there again competing to the end.

The Dallas Cowboys had the best regular season record in the conference and their super rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott now have a season of experience under their belt. Dez Bryant has been playing through injuries for much of the last two years, but he claims to be back to his old self. The defense shed most of its secondary and drafted a new crop to replace them. They seem to be ready to adopt the Falcons model, but are still searching for an elite pass rusher.

The Saints are an intriguing team after adding Adrian Peterson. Minnesota looked great for half a season before injuries caught up to them. Seattle’s defense battled injuries last year, but they are also back to full strength.

And of course, there remains Aaron Rodgers as the NFL’s best player who helped engineer an incredible second half turnaround that took the Packers all the way to the NFC Championship game.

With all that being said, here are some early odds that stand out:

NFC Regular Season Wins Odds & Predictions:
Arizona over 8 -140: last year just about everything went wrong for the Cardinals. But they still have one of the most electric players in David Johnson and a ton of talent on defense. Larry Fitzgerald is ageless and Carson Palmer should have one more good season in him. Look for a bounce back year in the desert.

New Orleans over 8 -125: I expect Peterson, Mark Ingram and a renewed focus on the running game to have a major impact. The defense has picked up some intriguing pieces as well as they try to model themselves in the Cowboys image.

Dallas over 9.5 -150: Will the sophomore slump affect they Cowboys dynamic duo? They also lost two starters from their vaunted offensive line. There are questions in play and the NFC East is known for its volatility, but this team has been built for the long term and should be able to get to ten wins.

Odds to win the NFC & Predictions
Atlanta (+600): They have the reigning MVP leading the most potent offense. The defense led by Vic Beasley has gained a year of experience as well. They are playing in the most competitive division in the conference, but the chip on their shoulders is real. Super Bowl runner-ups typically don’t rebound well, but I look to other sports, namely the Royals, the Spurs, the Warriors and see a trend of heart breaking championship losses adding the right kind of fuel to the fire.

Long Shot: Tampa Bay (+1800) I love what they did in adding weapons for Jameis Winston. This is a young team that showed all kinds of growth last year and if they can sneak in as a wildcard, they could surprise the world.
